How do I stay?

The Fisher House Kansas City features 16 fully furnished suites and serves as a “home away from home” for the families of Veterans or military service members receiving treatment at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. The facility also features a large kitchen and dining area, an elevator and a full laundry. There is no cost to stay, and there is no financial eligibility required.

How do I arrange to stay at the Fisher House Kansas City?

Referrals to the Fisher House Kansas City are done by social workers or clinical staff. An initial screening will be conducted to determine appropriateness. Rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis with one room per veteran family.

To qualify, guests must have a referral, and the permanent address of the guest must be more than 50 miles from the KCVA campus. Guests must be capable of self-care and be independent in activities of daily living. Guests must be actively involved in the Veteran’s daily treatment plan and provide ongoing support during episode of care. Guests must agree to sign and follow our Fisher House Kansas City guest agreement. Veterans that stay at the Fisher House Kansas City must be with a family member/caregiver; Veterans are not authorized to stay at the Fisher House Kansas City by themselves. There is no charge for staying at the Fisher House Kansas City.

What are your hours?

The house is open year-round, 24/7 for family members of Veterans and military members getting medical treatment.

The business hours for the house is Monday through Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except for Federal Holidays.

If a family needs to check in to the house when staff is not present, with advance notice, staff can make arrangements for VA Security to meet incoming guests at the house.
